Guest Information

DNS Toastmasters is open to general membership and guests are most welcome to visit to see what a meeting is like - all you have to do is turn up on one of the designated Tuesdays and participate as much or as little as your wish.

If you wish to discuss anything with a member, you can call us on 0500 502 184 or e-mail us.

For more information on what to expect at a meeting, take a look at the Complete Guide to DNS Meetings and also at the information page at Toastmasters International.

If you have more questions on the night, any member will be pleased to help. Two members in particular you might like to seek out are, VP Education or VP Membership. If you have any questions about the club itself, you might like to talk to our President.

Are there any charges?

There is no charge for guests initial visits. If a particular club appeals to a guest, most will join after two or three visits. A one off joining fee of A$60 covers registration with Toastmasters International and a copy of the first speech manual. There is an annual charge of A$180, which covers all attendance fees (22 meetings), light refreshments, Toastmasters International affiliation fees, club competition entry fees, manuals and certificates. The Toastmasters year goes from April to March, and if you join mid year, fees are calculated at $15 per month to the end of the year.

Can I change clubs later?

Though all clubs follow the same broad outline and have the same objectives, each has its own personality and style. Because of this it is recommended that you visit several clubs before deciding which one to join, though if you join one club and decide to change to another for whatever reason, Toastmasters International membership is transferable. However, other clubs may have a different local fee structure.

Comments from some of the current members.

Why I joined DNS Toastmasters?

"My job requires me to present and run training on a regular basis and I wanted to become better at doing this. A friend explained to me about Toastmasters and invited me to come and visit. At my first meeting, I was "in", as it provides opportunities to speak in front of people, as well as being supported to grow in this area. I really enjoy the meetings."

What I have learnt from DNS Toastmasters?

"Toastmaster has given me the confidence to speak in front of large groups. Facing an important and large business deal, I needed to sell the services of my company. This culminated in presenting at one of my client's conferences. After preparing my speech, I headed up to Darwin to attend the conference. The time for my presentation arrived and as I rose to speak at the lectern, an entourage of delegates arrived, doubling the number of people. I was able to control my nerves and convincingly put forward the strengths of my organization."
